Galvanize-60M

Update (October 2026). The public benchmark result on this card was decontaminated against the training data of Galvanize 2, not against the data Galvanize-60M was trained on. Some of those sets, in particular the deepset prompt-injections and jackhhao jailbreak-classification test sets, very likely overlap with this model's training data, so its scores there, and the macro average that includes them, probably overstate how it does on new data. The corrected sentence is in "Public benchmark" below. We will publish comparable results when anyone can reproduce them. This card also no longer quotes results on attacks from our internal red-team tooling: those attacks are private, so the figures could not be checked or reproduced. The held-out results below were measured on a set that also contains such attacks; they are kept as published.

Galvanize 2 replaces this model in the zn cloud check since 12 October 2026: https://huggingface.co/usezn/Galvanize-2 . Galvanize-60M remains available and is used as an automatic fallback.

Galvanize-60M is a small binary classifier that scores a piece of untrusted text (a user message, a web page, a file or a tool result) for prompt injection before it reaches an AI agent. It was the detector of the usezn.com API until 12 October 2026 and is now its automatic fallback. zn-gate does not run it on your machine: see "Use with agents".

• Architecture: answerdotai/ModernBERT-base pruned to 4 transformer layers (original layers 0, 7, 14 and 21), a 4-query attention pooling layer (3,072 dimensions) and a 2-layer MLP head. About 60M parameters, most of them in the token embeddings.
• Files:
  • onnx/model_quantized.onnx: dynamic INT8 graph (176.6 MB). Its single output, probabilities, already includes the calibration head and the sigmoid.
  • model.safetensors: the FP32 weights from which that INT8 graph was produced. Re-quantizing these weights with the graph's own per-channel scales reproduces every INT8 weight tensor exactly. The calibration head is not folded in: see "Decision rule".
• License: Apache 2.0, same as the base model.

Decision rule

The head parameters are in head.json (scale 0.7, shift −17.6063) and the threshold in calibrated_threshold.json. Production inputs are truncated to 512 tokens.

Evaluation

All numbers in this section are our own measurements, not independent evaluations.

Held-out results (2026-10-11)

Dataset. Our private held-out test set (3,309 examples: 1,322 attacks, 1,987 benign) in 7 languages, assembled in October 2026 after this model was trained and never used for training. Attacks include direct injections, system-prompt extraction, data-exfiltration framing, tool-call abuse, injections hidden in tool results, and real-world samples. Benign texts include ordinary multilingual messages and harder realistic assistant-style content. The set is kept private so it stays blind, so these numbers cannot be reproduced exactly by third parties.

Method. onnx/model_quantized.onnx, ONNX Runtime on an x86 CPU, batch size 1, inputs truncated to 512 tokens, threshold 0.95. The FP32 weights give the same picture (recall 65.2 %, FPR 6.5 %, AUROC 0.895).

In short, at threshold 0.95 and 512 tokens: recall 66.9 %, false-positive rate 6.4 %, AUROC 0.899.

Long benign documents. On our set of long benign documents, Galvanize-60M flags about 66 % at the same threshold.

Public benchmark

On the Horizon-Labs prompt-injection eval suite, run by us with the same protocol for every model (FP32 weights, threshold 0.95, first 512 tokens), Galvanize-60M has a macro average of 0.521 over the 10 sets. The run was decontaminated against the training data of Galvanize 2, not of Galvanize-60M (an earlier version of this card said "against our training data"). The training data of Galvanize-60M very likely includes data from the same sources as the deepset prompt-injections and jackhhao jailbreak-classification test sets, so its scores on those two sets (F1 0.921 and 0.868) and this macro average are likely inflated. Script, protocol and full results: usezn/Galvanize-2/benchmark.

Limitations

• Recall is moderate. At the default threshold about one attack in three is missed. Use the model as one layer of defense, not as the only control.
• Languages. Portuguese (43 % recall) and Russian (62 %) are clearly weaker than English and German.
• Adaptive attacks. Like any fixed classifier, it can be evaded by rewrites made specifically against it. Treat it as one layer of defense.
• Indirect injection. Injections hidden inside tool results are detected about half of the time (53 %, n = 60).
• False positives on realistic benign text. The false-positive rate is about 2-3 % on ordinary messages, but rises to 13-23 % on realistic assistant-style and real-world benign samples, and to about 66 % on long benign documents.
• Context length. Scores are calibrated for inputs truncated to 512 tokens. Longer inputs should be split into chunks and scored separately.
• INT8 numerics. Dynamic INT8 results vary slightly between CPU instruction sets, so individual scores near the threshold can flip.
• Task scope. The model only flags prompt injection. It does not detect toxicity, other harmful content or personal data.

Quickstart (ONNX Runtime)

def score(text: str) -> float:

    feeds = {"input_ids": np.array([enc.ids], dtype=np.int64),
             "attention_mask": np.array([enc.attention_mask], dtype=np.int64)}

Use with agents

npx -y zn-gate mcp runs zn-gate as a local MCP server. zn-gate (1.4.1 and later) does not run this model on your machine: its local checks are a deterministic rules engine and secret redaction, and tool output, tool-call arguments and MCP tool descriptions are never sent anywhere.

zn-gate has an optional cloud check for prompts (analyze_prompt, zn-gate analyze, Python analyze()). It is off by default and runs only if you set both ZN_CLOUD=1 and ZN_API_KEY. The secrets zn-gate detects are removed from the prompt on your machine before it is sent; personal data is not removed on this path. ZN_LOCAL_ONLY=true overrides ZN_CLOUD=1. Since 12 October 2026 this cloud check runs Galvanize 2, with Galvanize-60M as an automatic fallback. See github.com/usezn/zn.
