Qwen3.5-122B-A10B · FP8 (dynamic)

8-bit quantization of Qwen/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B, produced for efficient vLLM serving. Quantized by axteam.

Revision 2026-11-02 (config fix): the earlier config.json excluded the vision tower from quantization with the pattern re:model\.visual\..*, which does not match the names vLLM uses for these modules (visual.*). vLLM 0.32 therefore built the vision layers as FP8 and loaded the BF16 vision weights into them, so image input gave wrong answers; text input was not affected. Only config.json changed (the pattern now also matches vLLM's names); the weights are the same. Checked with vLLM 0.32.0 on 2026-11-02: the vision weights now load as BF16, and a synthetic test image (red circle, blue square, the caption "QWEN TEST 2026") is described correctly. If you downloaded this repo before 2026-11-01 23:22:56 UTC (revision 4dc4728), download config.json again.

Quantization details

• Scheme — W8A8 — FP8 E4M3 weights (per-output-channel scale), dynamic per-token FP8 activations, stored as compressed-tensors float-quantized (scheme FP8_DYNAMIC).
• Kept in BF16 — the vision tower & projector (model.visual.*), the multi-token-prediction head (mtp.*), all RMSNorms except the gated linear_attn.norm, token embeddings, the LM head, the MoE router (mlp.gate) and shared-expert gate, the SSM non-linear parts linear_attn.conv1d/dt_bias. Kept in FP32, as in the original: linear_attn.A_log and the gated linear_attn.norm. Left unquantized to preserve quality (about 4% of all parameters in this build).
• Tokenizer / chat_template / generation_config are identical to the original. config.json is the original plus a quantization_config block.

This is post-training quantization (PTQ) — no retraining. FP8 dynamic is calibration-free.

Benchmarks (measured)

Every column was measured with the same harness and settings — lm-evaluation-harness on vLLM, greedy, completion-style prompts without a chat template (0- or 5-shot, as listed in each row). MMLU here is lm-eval's generative variant (mmlu_generative: the model writes the answer letter and only an exact match on the first line counts), so it is not directly comparable with MMLU scores measured another way (e.g. log-likelihood scoring). Percentages are recovery vs. the BF16 original.

Evaluation (measured)

Fidelity to the BF16 original on an internal mixed English/Korean set (100 prompts: the BF16 original's greedy answers, scored under each build with the same prompts and scoring code). This build was measured with vLLM 0.32 on 2026-11-02; the BF16 reference column was measured on 2026-11-02.

These measure fidelity to the base model, not absolute task scores.

Requirements

Usage (vLLM)

Start an OpenAI-compatible server:

vllm serve axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic --max-model-len 32768

Query it:

curl http://localhost:8000/v1/chat/completions -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{
  "model": "axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic",
  "temperature": 0.6, "top_p": 0.95, "top_k": 20, "max_tokens": 512
}'

Offline inference in Python:

from vllm import LLM, SamplingParams

llm = LLM(model="axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic", max_model_len=32768)
params = SamplingParams(temperature=0.6, top_p=0.95, top_k=20, max_tokens=1024)
out = llm.chat([{"role": "user", "content": "Explain model quantization in two sentences."}], params)
print(out[0].outputs[0].text)

# image input (URL or data: URI)
messages = [{"role": "user", "content": [
    {"type": "image_url", "image_url": {"url": "https://example.com/your-image.png"}},
    {"type": "text", "text": "Describe this image."},
]}]
out = llm.chat(messages, params)
print(out[0].outputs[0].text)

Recommended sampling (from the original generation_config.json): temperature=0.6, top_p=0.95, top_k=20. Thinking mode is on by default in the chat template; to turn it off pass chat_template_kwargs={"enable_thinking": False} (Python llm.chat(..., chat_template_kwargs=...), or "chat_template_kwargs": {"enable_thinking": false} in the request body). Text-only serving: add --limit-mm-per-prompt '{"image": 0, "video": 0}' to skip loading the vision encoder's memory budget.

Reducing KV-cache memory (optional, serve-time)

The KV cache is kept in BF16 by default. KV-cache precision is a runtime choice, independent of the weight quantization above. This is a hybrid model: only its 12 full-attention layers keep a KV cache, while its 36 linear-attention (Gated DeltaNet) layers keep a fixed-size state per request, which --kv-cache-dtype does not change. FP8 halves the full-attention KV cache, so the saving grows with context length and is small for many short requests:

vllm serve axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic --kv-cache-dtype fp8

• BF16 유지: 비전 타워·투영층(model.visual.*), MTP 헤드(mtp.*), 모든 RMSNorm(게이트 linear_attn.norm 제외), 토큰 임베딩, LM 헤드, MoE 라우터(mlp.gate)와 공유 전문가 게이트, SSM의 선형층 외 파라미터(linear_attn.conv1d·dt_bias) — linear_attn.A_log·게이트 linear_attn.norm은 원본과 같이 FP32 유지 — 전체 파라미터의 약 4%

• trust_remote_code: 불필요

사용법

• 서버 실행: vllm serve axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic --max-model-len 32768 — OpenAI 호환 API
• Python: LLM(model="axteam/Qwen3.5-122B-A10B-FP8-dynamic", max_model_len=32768).chat(...)
• 권장 샘플링: temperature=0.6, top_p=0.95, top_k=20 (원본 generation_config.json 기준)
• thinking 모드: 기본 켜짐 — 끄려면 chat_template_kwargs={"enable_thinking": False} 전달(Python은 llm.chat() 인자, HTTP는 요청 본문의 "chat_template_kwargs": {"enable_thinking": false})
