Qwen3.8-Flash-Next — CMF

Qwen3.8-Flash-Next — a 125B hybrid mixture-of-experts model, 6B active per token (36 Gated DeltaNet + 12 sparse-attention layers, 512 experts per layer, 51B n-gram table, 262k context, thinking mode) — as CMF files, text only. It runs with cortiq, a Rust engine with no Python. Experts stream from the memory-mapped file as tokens need them, so the default 77 GB file runs on one GPU (measured from a 12 GB VRAM budget up to a whole 32 GB card) with the rest in system RAM.

RTX 3090 (24 GB), cortiq 0.8.15: 49.1 tok/s decode; first token after a 1,000-token prompt in 9.9 s. RTX 5090 (cortiq 0.8.8): 81.7 tok/s, 108.6 with speculative decoding.

Quick start

cargo install cortiq-cli --locked
hf download infosave/Qwen3.8-Flash-Next-cmf qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf flashnext.profile --local-dir .
CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "Explain quicksort in three sentences." --no-think

Use cortiq 0.8.15 or later (prebuilt binaries). Without --no-think the model reasons first; raise --max-tokens (default 256). Each cortiq run loads the model again (10–30 s to the first token); for chat, keep it loaded with cortiq serve.

Files

Quantized from the bf16 checkpoint; attention, embeddings and the output head are 8-bit. Code ppl: perplexity on 1,536 tokens of Rust source, lower is better. An .mtp.cmf file is used only when it sits next to its model file under the name shown. q2tp-v2 has the same tensor layout as q2tp; its experts are GPTQ-quantized against the inputs each expert actually receives (cortiq quantize-moe, cortiq 0.8.20; 262,144 calibration tokens). Wider sets, ppl (q2tp-v2 / q2tp / q4tp): WikiText-2 12×512 6.06 / 7.36 / 5.43; Rust source 32×512 5.58 / 5.43 / 4.98 — on that code set the uncalibrated q2tp is 2.7 % better.

Performance

Decode, one stream, cortiq bench --tokens 120 --core (greedy), q2tp file + flashnext.profile, tok/s:

The 16 GB and 12 GB columns cap the same card with CMF_GPU_VRAM_MB=16000 / 12000. The RTX 3090 host holds the whole file in RAM (medians of 3 runs); the RTX 5090 and 4090 hosts had 62 GB of RAM, so their small-budget rows include disk reads. Rows from older versions were not re-measured; 0.8.7 (the RTX 4090 row) runs at about 60 % of the speed of later versions. Bench numbers are a best case: the profile was recorded on prompts that include the bench prompt.

Long prompts, RTX 3090, cortiq 0.8.15:

Real text, greedy, no thinking, full card, tok/s:

Hardware and memory

Disk: the file size (77 GB q2tp, 97 GB q4tp). RAM: the file size for full speed; with less it still runs, slower (table below). GPU: Vulkan, measured on NVIDIA RTX 3090, 4090 and 5090 (cortiq gpu lists adapters, CMF_GPU_ADAPTER picks one). On headless Linux, if cortiq gpu lists nothing, install libglvnd0 libgl1 libegl1 libvulkan1 vulkan-tools (script) and export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/tmp for every run; otherwise the engine silently falls back to the CPU.

The 4.57 GB of weights that every token uses stay on the card; the rest of the VRAM budget caches the most-used experts, and any other expert is copied in from RAM or disk when a token needs it:

Usage

cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf # interactive chat, thinking on
cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "..." --no-think # direct answer
cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "..." --greedy # deterministic output

Qwen's recommended sampling:

Without flags the CLI uses temperature 0.7, repetition penalty 1.1 and at most 256 new tokens; --greedy is temperature 0.

OpenAI-compatible server

CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq serve qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8080

curl http://127.0.0.1:8080/v1/chat/completions -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model": "qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2", "messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Hi!"}], "enable_thinking": false}'

Endpoints: /v1/chat/completions (streaming, tools, enable_thinking), /v1/completions, /v1/models, /healthz, web dashboard on /. Without --host the server listens on all interfaces (0.0.0.0).

Speculative decoding

The .mtp.cmf file holds the model's multi-token-prediction head. Under greedy decoding (--greedy, or temperature: 0 in the API) it drafts 3 tokens per round (CMF_QWEN_MTP_K) and the model checks them in one pass; the text matches plain greedy output except at floating-point near-ties. It pays on an RTX 5090 at the full card (81.7 → 108.6 tok/s), is level at 16 and 12 GB budgets, and is slower on an RTX 3090 (49.1 → 44.3), so there leave the file out or set CMF_QWEN_MTP=0. Sampled runs do not speculate, yet the file still takes about 0.9 GB of VRAM whenever it sits next to the model: for sampled chat, set CMF_QWEN_MTP=0 too.

Long context

The model supports 262,144 tokens; the GPU path serves about 16k. Past that the GPU path turns itself off and the rest of that request is generated without the earlier context. For longer prompts or conversations, set CMF_QWEN_DEVICE=0 (host path, much slower) before the run starts.

Settings

Limits

• Text only: the upstream vision encoder is not included.
• Measured on NVIDIA through Vulkan; AMD, Intel and DX12 are not measured.
• Apple silicon: the Metal backend has no GPU path for this architecture; the model runs the much slower host path (not measured).
• One stream measured; concurrent cortiq serve requests are not.

cargo install cortiq-cli --locked
hf download infosave/Qwen3.8-Flash-Next-cmf qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf flashnext.profile --local-dir .
CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "Объясни квиксорт в трёх предложениях." --no-think

RTX 3090, cortiq 0.8.15:

cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "..." --no-think # прямой ответ
cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "..." --greedy # детерминированный вывод
CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq serve qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8080   # OpenAI API

Сэмплирование, рекомендованное Qwen: с рассуждениями --temperature 1.0 --top-p 0.95 --top-k 20 --min-p 0.0 --presence-penalty 0.0 --rep-penalty 1.0; с --no-think — --temperature 0.7 --top-p 0.80 --top-k 20 --min-p 0.0 --presence-penalty 1.5 --rep-penalty 1.0.

cargo install cortiq-cli --locked
hf download infosave/Qwen3.8-Flash-Next-cmf qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf flashnext.profile --local-dir .
CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "用三句话解释快速排序。" --no-think

cortiq run qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --prompt "..."
CMF_QWEN_PROFILE=flashnext.profile cortiq serve qwen38-flash-next-q2tp-v2.cmf --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8080   # OpenAI 兼容 API

服务器端点：/v1/chat/completions（流式、tools、 enable_thinking）、/v1/completions、/v1/models、/healthz，以及 / 上的 网页面板；不加 --host 时监听所有网络接口（0.0.0.0）。
